CASE: A 23-year old G1P0 woman at 38 weeks gestation comes to Labor and Delivery complaining of a 5-hour history of painful contractions occurring every 5 minutes and lasting 45-60 seconds in duration. She denies leaking of fluid per vagina, but has noted bloody show. She reports normal fetal movement.I was 2 1/2 cm at 34 weeks and baby was already descending into the pelvis. It doesn't mean labor is pending but it could and for that reason I think light activity is a great idea. My midwife pulled me from work as well and I'm glad. I've continued to dilate and its noticeably when I am not resting as I should be!If your cervix is very thick, not as great. If it’s nice and thin it might be better. BUT cervixes can thin out very quickly with nice contractions. We call this effacement (and we usually measure it in a percent — so they’ll say your cervix is 50% effaced).
